CLA and Partners Calls for Clarity in National Security Review of Pharmaceutical Imports

On May 7, CLA joined the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) in submitting comments on the Department of Commerce’s investigation into the national security impacts of pharmaceutical imports. The groups urged clarity on the investigation’s scope and relationship to Annex II of Executive Order 14257, as any actions could inadvertently displace domestic chemical production and jobs.

The groups recognize that pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical supply chains, including pesticide products, are not always easily segregated. Any resulting actions could have direct effects on existing chemical production for both pharmaceutical supply chains and other supply chains. The groups recommend that no preliminary actions be taken until the scope is clarified with members who represent and produce both pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical ingredients.
