CropLife America Presents Honorary Lifetime Membership to Ambassador Kenneth Quinn: Distinction Recognizes Global Contributions to Agriculture
WASHINGTON, DC – Jay Vroom, president and CEO of CropLife America (CLA), presented an Honorary CLA Lifetime Membership to Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, president of The World Food Prize Foundation, during the opening dinner of the 2015 CLA Winter Board Meeting on March 2nd. This distinction recognizes Dr. Quinn’s global contributions to the field of agriculture over the course of his career, and his 15 years at The World Food Prize Foundation, and was received by him to a standing ovation.
“Dr. Quinn’s work exemplifies the beneficial impact that modern agriculture has on society,” stated Vroom. “Through continuous advancements, open conversations and a commitment to work together, we can move closer to ending hunger and eradicating poverty on a global scale. Borlaug.”
Dr. Quinn is the former U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia and is one of the U.S. government’s foremost experts on Indochina. His diplomatic career includes work as a rural development advisor in the Mekong Delta; on the National Security Council staff at the White House; and as director of Iowa SHARES, the humanitarian campaign that sent Iowa doctors, nurses, medical supplies and food to starving Cambodian refugees. While serving as deputy assistant secretary of state, his plan of agricultural enhancements and rural roads led to the final eradication of the Khmer Rouge.
After a 32-year career in the Foreign Service, Dr. Quinn assumed leadership of The World Food Prize Foundation on January 1, 2000. Inspired by the vision of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, the founder of The World Food Prize, Dr. Quinn has endeavored to build this annual $250,000 award into the Nobel Prize for Food and Agriculture. His leadership has led to the growth of The World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony, the Borlaug Dialogue international symposium and the Global Youth Institute held each year in October around World Food Day.
